When I had my brick and mortar business, half the time I had no idea what was I doing. I would approach problems as they came to me. I was too focused on leading my team by example, making sure every last customer walked in through the front door was handled with the highest level of service. My business growth came from simple word of mouth. Honestly, I was managing my business by following aged-old rules. My goal was to grow and was going to accomplish that with hard work.
Soon my business was big enough that my thirst for more growth wasn’t satisfied by my traditional business methods. That’s when I started to understand the online business world. I was able to rapidly grow my business after I understood how to use the internet. It took a bit of a learning curve but I got it down, soon business was on a different level.
I was exposed to new business practices, had no idea existed. In 2006, I decided to sell my business to focus on acquiring knowledge in an online business career. I’ll be labeled as a liar if I described life magnificent since I made that decision. There’s been plenty of times I’ve questioned myself if I made the right choice.
We are now in 2020 during an epidemic, the world is completely different. The news noted that what would have taken a few months or even years of digital adaptation. We have adapted in a couple of days. Chipotle was months away from launching an app decided to expedite launch date with in 15 days. Businesses that never knew working from home was an option found them self’s scrabbling trying to adapt.
Aged-old rules and hard work is no match for a digital age. Giant corporations have leverage like never before over small businesses. Amazon.com has a Product & Development budget of 12% total revenue equaling 22 billion dollars. It’s no surprise they are quickly becoming a superior retailer. How can a small business compete with a budget like that?
