I was looking at one of these creator community platforms the other day.

At first, I thought it was pretty simple.

Someone builds software.
Business owners use it.
Creators build communities on it.
People sell courses, coaching, memberships, whatever.

Normal internet business stuff.

But then I started thinking about the actual flow.

The user pays to join.
Then they learn how to build their own community.
Then they’re encouraged to promote it.
Then they run ads.
Then they bring their own customers in.

And where do all those customers land?

Inside the platform.

That’s when it clicked.

The platform is not just selling software.

It’s getting people to pay to help grow the ecosystem.

Which is kind of genius.

But also kind of wild.

Because in a normal affiliate model, the company pays people to bring in customers.

Here, the customer pays to enter.

Then they spend more money on ads.

Then they bring more people into the platform.

Then the platform gets more users, more data, more visibility, and more proof that the model works.

So the person thinks they’re building their own thing.

And they are.

But they’re also building the platform’s thing at the same time.

That’s the part people miss.

It’s not just a course.
It’s not just a community.
It’s not just software.

It’s a machine.

And the smartest machines don’t always look like machines.

They look like opportunity.

Now, I’m not saying this is automatically bad.

A lot of platforms work this way.

But as a business owner, you have to ask a better question:

Am I using this system?

Or is this system using me?

Because there’s a big difference between getting leverage…

and becoming someone else’s leverage.

That’s the real issue.

The problem isn’t the tool.

The problem is entering the architecture without understanding who it was designed to benefit.

Sometimes the customer isn’t just the customer.

Sometimes the customer is the engine.
